Maya waterlily spirit Brooklyn

Waterlily spirit, 600–900 CE, clay with pigments, 21 x 5.4 x 4.3 cm. It may look vaguely Buddhist, but actually comes from Jaina Island, just off the Mexican coast. Jaina was a major burial site for the Mayan elite, and findspot of some of the very best sculptural works in all of Americas. Source: Brooklyn Museum.
